Well, I’m back and boy, has it been a while. Yeah, things were hectic but that’s no excuse, is it? It’s not and I’m sorry. So let’s get right back into the venom and spewing that is, The Rant.
Where to start? First off, I have just about had it with the lack of manners on the internet, and I’m not talking about anonymous id users in forums who like to stir the pot but people (and I use that term for lack of a better one) who contact me looking for information or wanting to order something and I go to the time and effort to answer their questions, get them prices and/or give them more affordable alternatives. And what do I get for my efforts?
……
Yep, nothing. No “Hey, that’s great info and I appreciate your time to answer my inquiry.” or even just a simple, “Thanks.” I get nothing. I take my time to answer your email, generally in a timely fashion, in efforts to save you money and you can’t even bother to give some type of reply? Let’s hope we never meet face to face.
So while I’m on the warpath of people I’m not terribly fond of at the moment, I’m going to do something that I should have done a long time ago and have never done before (and will hopefully never have to do again).
While I am no fan of Marvel Comics as a business and I often talk about opening a “Marvel-free” comic store, I would never ask or tell anyone to not buy a Marvel comic. Nor would I deny anyone the opportunity to buy a Marvel comic by not ordering it. But I am about to do so, just not with Marvel.
I am going to ask the loyal and dedicated HH followers to begin a boycott of any product being produced by the publisher MARKOSIA. My reasons for calling on this boycott are, in my eyes, the irresponsible and grossly unethical business practices I have read about regarding the treatment of people who have worked for them and my own personal interaction with the company.
And I don’t make this request lightly. Happy Harbor will no longer stock any comics produced by Markosia. We will respect the wishes of any customer who wants a particular item produced by them but I do ask that you consider your purchases carefully. If you can live without that particular book, we ask that you please do so.
And I like said, I hope I never have to do anything like this again but after all these years of seeing groups like the Hero Initative (formerly ACTOR) fight for the rights of (generally) older creators, I see less done to help those who get into agreements with certain companies today. Ther best way I can show my distaste for them is by ordering as little as their product as I can so, that’s what I intend to do. I hope you will join us.

I’ve only heard a small part of what type of business they run, but hearing what I have, I’m in full support.

Nothing — aside from and all props to “Done to Death” — they have produced has impressed me in the slightest, so it won’t take much for me to say goodbye to them.
In fact… it won’t take anything at all.
You’re a very responsible store owner Jay. I have IMMENSE respect for you both as a person, and as a store owner.
For what that’s worth.
