I can’t say for certain that every month this column will be one, or two, columns. This week I received my comics kind of late (also received somebody else’s comics, but that’s been resolved), and the order has to be put in fairly early, so, I’m just writing it up as one column.

Singles:

52 #52

An interesting if confusing send-off to a wonderful weekly series. Wraps everything up rather nicely, and I cannot wait to give it a complete re-read .. when they eventually release all of the trades. Intense love for Renee being the new Question. I’m not sure why that works so well, but it really does.

Astonishing X-Men #21

A perfect issue in a perfect run. I know, high acclaim, but this has been the best X-Men have been in years. And years. And several years before that. Cassaday is drawing the hell outta each one of the X-men — c’mon, who’s jaw didn’t drop even just a little when Kitty was standing before Colossus? — and Joss is simply one of the best writers, ever. I do hope Armor sticks around. All-around mindblowing.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #3

Again. Joss is one of the best writers, ever. I’m 31, and not all embarrassed to admit I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And that last page? What in the!?

Countdown #51 - 48

Even if I was to avoid the natural comparisons to 52, this series has been sucking wind since I opened the first page of the first issue. Not only do I have absolutely no comprehension whatsoever as to what is going on, I also cannot bring myself to give the slightest amount of crap for Jimmy Olsen. None. I’m sticking around because I like Mary Marvel and Jason Todd. And hopefully Dini can give me a third reason soon.

Finally! I’d honestly have to re-read the entire series to get a feel for if I enjoyed this, since it took so long to be released. I felt the reveal of Thor came too quick somehow, and the entire fight was wrapped up in an instant — granted, it was a 7-page spread, but it was still done in an instant.
