Tales from the Harbor Vol4 !

Postby Bob Prodor » Fri Oct 03, 2008 3:51 pm

I was kind of disappointed more people didn't show at the release, but I had a blast at the Comic Jam anyway, and so did my girlfriend- it was fun having her there. I don't know about anyone else here, but I got super pumped every time a new volume of Tales was coming, from working on my submission to getting feedback from Jay and Stephen, to the actual release. It's interesting how the books have grown from the first 24hr one to this latest one, in both content and design. The jacket is the best yet, right up there with Girls Drawn Wild.
My favorite stories are Skolna, of course, and Rudi's procrastination confession. Even though I don't/can't procrastinate on the epic scale of Rudi (it's of Bruckheimer/Bay proportions), everyone's done it. I could never admit to procrastinating like Rudi does here. It takes a real man to open up in this way. I really hope he does more autobiographic stuff- his characters are so likable, and it's just so neat the way he writes.
Skolna also treads on subject matter I would never have the guts to tackle, even if I wanted to. I hope Chance keeps Skolna going- it's just so over the top and crazy, but well thought out and original.
Any other impressions?

If I'm right, then I think it IS your cover. I still think that is 100% poster worthy

I wish I could have made it out last night, but instead I got to continue being sick.

Whoo-freaking-hoo.

I'll have to remember to pick up a copy when I grab my comics next week, though.

Thanks! Maybe I'll make a few prints of it to give out.

HEY! Didn't I get exclusive rights when you did that free cover for me?!
Man, everyone trying to make a buck off my back.

Rudi's was tight. Some of his best pencils in a very long time and I'm gald I cut him some slack (even if I was a bit harsh on him at times, sorry Rudi). Jeffery Dekker's very ... unique story disturbed me through my laughter and Herb's "Fargo" stories always bring a smile to my face. He has such a unique style that I'd love to see in a "Billy Baston" type comic.

I'd also like to shout out to Dion for the final chapter of his prose piece, "Bloodline". He put a lot of work into this story and he tried very hard to learn about writing stories. He is a guy who, unlike most of us, didn't have any real training with what he tried to do but had a story to tell and told it. He gets top props in my book for his effort and I hope to continue to work with him so he can tell more stories.

's OK. Most of it, i deserved. Hell, it got my ass in gear a number of times when i was considering quitting, mainly 'cause i didn't want to disappoint you.
i'm glad (and kinda surprised) everyone seems to be liking it so far.

Dekker's story was crazy - i felt the art was kinda like a cross between Cognoman's and Violenza's.
Bob's stuff was awesome as usual - makes me want to do another fan-art piece for him.
Andy's "Hobopocalypse" looked great as well, as did Chase's "Skolna"
i wished the Wandering Stars piece would've been longer - been too long since their last comic.
Brian's piece, although pretty dark in subject matter, was quite interesting.

haven't read the short stories yet, so no opinions on them. Sorry!

Brian's piece was really neat- a nice little story with a somewhat dark undercurrent, yet a happy ending, thank goodness.
Rudi- I'd love to get another PinUp from you featuring LJ, La Calavera, etc. I 'd love it!

I... completely forgot. I have a cold (apparently, my tradition of getting a cold on the university exam schedule continues, even though I'm not in uni anymore) and I was helping a friend make a job portfolio. Argh.

hey everybodeeee!
thanks for the positive support regarding Skolna!
and dont worry, shes already been on at least three more sagas since being printed.

id like to say that this has been my fave tales book. i sat down to read my own story and didnt put it down till i was over 3/4 of the way thru.
hilites: that hideous sausage story! blew my lunch, almost.
also, la calavera with those weird dreamtime scenes
the procrastination journal was neat, but i was hoping that it was the journal of how the author came to write THAT particular journal comic. sort of a picture-within-picture-within-world-within-a stage show- within a movie within a bjork video. but it was cool anyway. i feel like i know the staff at happyharbor better now.
and the kid with the pet dinosaur was cool too, just like last time. sorry im at work and cant remember anyones names or story titles.
but possibly my current fave is: mathemagicks!

anyhoo, keep up the good work.
ill try to talk to skolna and see if shge wants to add her 2 kroners to the forums sometime.

peace!\

well, that was my original intention, but as the comic (and my life) progressed (or didn't progress), the outcome of the story changed. I wanted to make it a journal of my life in those ten days, whether or not i was able to finish in time. i originally meant to put in more details about how i make a comic, but i ended up going for the truth (in real-time), rather than making stuff up about how the comic was produced. But, yeah, the details in that about what steps i made in making that comic were accurate. i merely glossed over the finishing steps when i missed my deadline (so that i could still get the story into the book).

as i remember, that week you were indeed wearing the low cut blouses/dresses - i even commented on the "cleavage o' doom", if you recall.
